The small size of the speakers belies the full tonality I'm enjoying (no subwoofer required, either). The result is four independently powered speakers (two left & two right) for a total of 6 watts per channel. I got to thinking that if I used two sets of them I might solve the problem (I know what you're thinking - A/B on the right and A/B on the left. I'd give them 6 stars if I could. Well, not so fast. I've owned two sets of these little gems for exactly one year today.
One thing they lacked was separation (a fair trade-off for portability). I use them mounted vertically on a home-made bracket that sits out of sight behind the laptop screen. I bought them for travel initially for my laptop & MP3 player. What I did was wyed the L & R together with an RCA 'Y' adapter on each set (giving me mono input to each pair) and then used one unit for each stereo output. I think you'll have a challenge matching my little setup for under $100. I was impressed with the range and clarity of the sound.
That's not separation).
I have 2-3 friends that have asked "Where can get one"Razz I have a couple of boats, I cart this stereo out on the boats, to the beach, and I have velcro'ed it to my beach bike when I ride. It is totally awesome and portable and the batteries last quite long.
Don't expect lots of bass, or great stereo separation. I wouldn't purchase these to just use as stationary speakers, the emphasis is here is travel. When used with a good set of NiMH AA rechargeable batteries, battery life is actually very good. I was having a hard time finding a set of good portable speakers. What you can expect is good sound, good volume, and good portability. When closed, the case packs nicely in luggage or a backpack. I purchased these at a Staples store (and overpaid) with the expectation that I would probably be returning them the next day. It turns out that these are a great set of travel speakers.
Yes, shhhhhhhh.I have these speakers in front of me, so I don't need too much volume to hear music adequately.Because of this, I can hear this shhhhh noise, and it's annoying. The sound is OK, one star because they're JBL and the price tag.
Taking it on my cruise. Very happy with the quality. Gives me all the sound I need.
